Repurposed Table Top

Hello!  Today I wanted to share one of my favorite projects so far!!!  I have always wanted to make one of those huge clock faces that you see in magazines.  Here is one from Pottery Barn...

I wanted mine to be BIG!  So I started thinking about what I could use.  We have a big pile of old barn wood out in our backyard, so I started thinking about putting pieces together, but I couldn't find enough pieces that would work.  So I scratched that idea.  Then my wonderful Mother and I were on one of our junking trips and we found an old table top for FREE!! It was just leaning up against a building with no legs.  Perfect!!  So I took it home and got started.

I started by taking off all the brackets on the back of the table top so that it was flat.  Then I painted it with a flat gray paint.

Then I covered the whole thing with a crackle finish and left it outside on the covered patio.  When I went out to check on it a couple of hours later, I was so surprised at the finish.  It had been raining, so it was SUPER humid outside.  It didn't crackle like I thought it would.  It left a very unique dimpled sort of finish.  But I LOVED it!  It was perfect!  So then I sort of dry brushed the whole thing with white paint to bring out those dimples.  Next, I used an overhead projector to blow up the clock face on to the table top.  This was NOT easy, but it worked.  I painted the clock face on and then heavily waxed it with light and dark wax.  The last step was to added a couple old metal pieces that I had in my stash.

I LOVE how it turned out!!!! It is currently available for sale.

I LOVE clock faces!  I am dying to make a few more out of different materials!  Have you made any?  Let me see them!!  Have a good one!

Oh - and don't forget that we will be selling Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint.  Right now the plan is for it to launch some time in August.  We are taking pre-orders now!
